Import Export Code (IEC)

The DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Department of Commerce, Government of India, offers an Import Export Code (also known as IEC code), which is a 10-digit identifying number. Importer Exporter Code is yet another name for it. To launch a business that deals with import and export in the Indian Territory, companies and businesses must receive this code. Without this IEC code, dealing with export or import commerce is impossible.

To receive the Import Export Code, you must follow certain procedures and meet certain requirements (IEC code). You should also follow certain rules. The IEC code can be obtained from the DGFT headquarters once you have met the requirements. It has a number of regional offices across the country.
