The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has mandated that food operators obtain a food licence in order to monitor the quality of food products produced or processed by various food operators. All food-related enterprises are needed to apply for several types of food licences depending on the following criteria.

  • Turnover
  • Size of the company
  • The kind of activity.

Under the FSSAI, there are three sorts of registrations. Based on government registration criteria, our experts will advise you on the appropriate registration. The cost of the plan will vary depending on the type of registration requested.

  1. Small enterprises or startups with an annual revenue of less than Rs.12 lakhs can apply for FSSAI basic registration. The basic registration would need to be upgraded to a state licence as operations expand up and turnover reaches Rs. 12 lakh bar.

  3. FSSAI Central License-Applicants who have an annual revenue of more than Rs.20 crores must get a Central Level License from the FSSAI. Wherever you are involved in the import or export of food products, or selling commodities to government offices, the same licencing applies.

The licences issued by the FSSAI are always location specific. If you have more than one business location, you must apply for individual registrations for each one.

Food Business Operators are issued licences and registrations in a three-tier system under the FSS (Licensing & Registration) Regulations, 2011, which include:

1. Registration is the first step.

2. A license from the state

A FSSAI licence can be obtained for a period of one year to five years. When applying for an FSSAI License, you can specify how long you want to hold the licence for. Your price may also vary based on the duration of time you choose.
